There are so many unique shops in Waterdown that have become a great reason for people to shop in Waterdown... Leylands is one of them. With the "wedding of the century" coming up next Friday April 29th, I thought this would be a great time to introduce you to Leylands in case you've never made the trip into town to check out this little jem of a store. Leylands is offering "Tax Free Day" on the day of the Royal Wedding and also offering free Empire Cookies. They also have a good supply of Royal Wedding memorabilia including mugs, plates, cup & saucers and teapots!
from their website.... "Leylands was established in 2002 and is named after the British Leylands Company in England. Bought out in 2005, Leylands has gone from strength to strength, offering exceptional variety of items with new stock arriving every second week. Our customers continue to ask us to bring in items they miss from Britain: if it's possible, we do. We now stock over 500 items making us, if not the best, then one of the best stocked British stores in Ontario. Run by Karen Thorpe and Sheryl Wellings, two sisters born in Birmingham and raised in the West Midlands, Leylands has that great "corner shop" feeling where customers feel able to pause and chat. Excellent customer incentive programs and products such as fresh pies, custard tarts and a variety of other baked products make Leylands a staple in our customers lives. Running through the summer we offer flake "99" ice creams - just like the ones you used to get from the ice cream vans back home"
Leylands is located at 318 Dundas Street East (just west of the historic 4 corners at Dundas & Mill Street on the south side (beside the American). Phone 905-690-9539. leylands@bellnet.ca
I'm heading over there soon to pick up my Royal Wedding stuff before they run out!

Best Alterations
I must admit, I'm not very tall... and I often have my pant legs dragging on the ground. You'd think that being of short stature that I would regularly have new pants hemmed at a tailor/alterations place.
Last week I decided that since the hem on my too long pants fell down from repeated dragging on the ground, that I'd better see about getting them fixed. Many times I passed by AJ Professional Alterations at 19 Main Street South, and decided I'd give them a try.
I was so thrilled with the great service I got there. I took my pants in (plus a couple of shirts which needed some stitching repairs done) on Monday and everything was ready by Wednesday!! The best part was the price... only $13 cash to get everything hemmed/fixed (all transactions in cash). So worth every penny and then some. She did a fantastic job. Looks like she can do anything you might need, and she looks after both ladies and gentlemen. I love to support local business, and I highly recommend AJ Professional Alterations (905) 689-2228

Best Cuppa Coffee
When I think of my favourite Waterdown coffee house, the theme song to "Cheers" always seems to run through my mind. Not only does the Jitterbug Cafe have a great cup of coffee (I love their loose tea and hot chocolate too!), but you go back time and time again because you feel like a part of the family.
Proprietor Shelley Campbell, and her awesome staff, do their best to get to know their patrons, and greet you like an old friend every time you return.
The food they serve is fantastic too. Stop in for lunch or breakfast and you won't be disappointed. For breakfast I love the Omelets (try Shelly's Special Omelet of the Day), and my girls love the Chocolate Chip Pancakes. For lunch try their great homemade soup or my personal favourites the Chicken Summer Salad and to die for Banana Chocolate Chip muffin (it's HUGE)!
Jitterbug is located at 35 Main Street North in Waterdown. You can find them on the web at www.jitterbugcafeandcatering.com or you can follow them on Facebook under Jitterbug Cafe. They seem to post their daily specials on their Facebook page daily.
